Dell Scholars at UT Austin

In addition to the benefits and services provided by UT for Me, incoming Pell-eligible freshmen from families with the greatest need become part of Dell Scholars at UT Austin and receive a financial award of up to $20,000.

Financial Support

Each Dell Scholar at UT Austin receives a financial award of $20,000 over their time in college — approximately $5,000 per year over four years (any remaining funds can be used for up to six years from a student’s initial fall semester). These funds can be applied to their cost of attendance, including room and board, transportation, supplies and other expenses. For Texas residents, this funding is on top of the University’s Texas Advance Commitment, which guarantees aid to cover the full cost of tuition and fees for Texas families earning $65,000 or less.

Incoming Dell Scholars at UT Austin are notified of their scholarship award through their initial Financial Aid Notification (FAN). For students receiving external scholarships, financial aid packages may vary such that those students may not need or may not be eligible for the full amount of their scholarship support each semester based on federal financial aid guidelines. If the amount awarded in any given academic year exceeds total cost of attendance for that year, then funds will be “rolled over” for use in a future academic year.

Any student selected as a Dell Scholar prior to March 2020 through the program’s national model will continue to be supported directly by Dell Scholars staff at the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation.
